FMCG
Strong Brands in Everyday Life – Highly Rated by Consumers.
Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) are a staple of consumers’ daily lives. These include products purchased on a regular basis in categories such as food, beverages, personal care, household goods, and hygiene. The German Institute for Product and Market Evaluation examines public perception of FMCG brands using statistical surveys and AI-powered analytical methods. Awards are given to brands that achieve particularly positive and consistent results within their respective product categories.
Methodology
As part of regular Germany-wide surveys, researchers examine how consumers perceive and evaluate brands in the fast-moving consumer goods sector. The data is analyzed using a standardized, AI-powered analytical process that enables the structured processing of large volumes of data and the identification of recurring evaluation patterns.
The consumer ratings collected are cleaned, categorized, and analyzed based on predefined statistical criteria. Only data sets that meet the methodological requirements of the respective study are included.
The final evaluation is based on several relevant perception dimensions and is conducted within comparable product and brand categories. An award is granted only if a brand meets the threshold established for the respective study and the result withstands an additional methodological plausibility check. The seal of approval thus certifies an above-average positive result within the underlying study.
The evaluation criteria include, among other things,
How well-known is the brand within the product category under review? Do consumers reliably recognize it and clearly associate it with specific products, characteristics, or usage situations?
How is the perceived quality of the brand assessed? Factors taken into account include, among others, the assessment of product performance, reliability, and the extent to which the brand meets expectations.
How satisfied are consumers overall with the brand’s products? The study examines whether their experiences are predominantly positive and whether the brand meets the personal needs of its customers.
How is the relationship between perceived value and the asking price assessed? The decisive factor here is not the lowest price, but rather the subjective perception of whether the offer is reasonable.
How strong are consumer trust and brand loyalty? The analysis examines whether consumers will choose the brand again, recommend it to others, or develop a lasting preference for it.
How consistent is brand perception across different consumer groups, survey time points, and evaluation dimensions? Individual positive mentions are generally not sufficient to qualify for an award.
Results
The German Institute for Product and Market Evaluation assesses FMCG brands based on several statistically measured perception dimensions. These may include, in particular, brand awareness, perceived quality, satisfaction, trust, perceived value for money, and willingness to recommend. The specific weighting depends on the focus of the respective study.
Award-winning brands achieve a particularly positive overall result within their respective categories. The award does not represent an assessment of every individual product within the brand, but rather reflects the results of the underlying survey for the specified study period.
How is the evaluation conducted?
The evaluation of FMCG brands is based on a multi-stage research model that combines quantitative consumer surveys with structured, AI-driven analytical methods. The criteria used are tailored to the specific subject of the study and reflect various dimensions of brand perception.
The methodology is primarily quantitative in nature and aims to capture consumer opinions in a transparent manner, make them comparable, and synthesize them into a reliable overall result.
Brand Awareness
When examining brand awareness, the extent to which a brand is known and recognized by consumers within its product category is determined. A distinction can be made between prompted and unprompted awareness. However, awareness alone is not sufficient for an award. It is always considered in conjunction with other qualitative perception characteristics.
Brand and Product Perception
Brand and product perception encompasses assessments of quality, reliability, utility, design, availability, and suitability for everyday use. Depending on the specific product category, additional characteristics may be included in the study. The focus is not on the technical evaluation of individual products, but rather on the statistically measured perceptions and experiences of the consumers surveyed.
Customer Satisfaction and Trust
The customer satisfaction dimension examines the extent to which a brand meets its customers’ expectations. It also assesses whether the brand is perceived as credible, reliable, and consistent. To this end, factors such as repurchase intent, willingness to recommend the brand, brand preference, and overall satisfaction with past product experiences can be evaluated.
Statistical and AI-Based Analysis
Once data collection is complete, the data sets are checked for completeness, consistency, and methodological usability. Implausible, incomplete, or duplicated entries may be excluded from further analysis according to predefined rules. AI-supported methods are particularly helpful in structuring large data sets, categorizing statements, and identifying recurring patterns. The final evaluation is based on established statistical criteria and defined thresholds.
The analysis may be supplemented by an evaluation of publicly available digital content, provided that this is part of the respective study. Only information that is relevant to the subject of the study and methodologically usable is taken into account. To adequately reflect changes in consumer behavior, brand perception, and within individual product categories, criteria and analytical models are regularly reviewed. Comparability applies to the specified study period, the target group under investigation, and the brand categories included.
Recruitment Process for Your Company
Would you like to submit your brand
for review?
Brands in the fast-moving consumer goods sector may be submitted for inclusion in an upcoming study or for a supplementary methodological review. Submission does not guarantee certification or the awarding of a seal of approval.
As part of the evaluation process, we first determine whether the brand can be classified within the relevant FMCG category and whether there is sufficient reliable data available for an assessment. The evaluation is then conducted according to the criteria and thresholds established for the respective study.
Supplementary documents may include, for example, information on the brand, the product range, the relevant sales markets, and the respective product category. Company information may be used for proper classification but does not replace an independent statistical assessment.
